I learnt (together with the YFG yesterday evening) that temptation is:
1) Universal.
It happens to everybody.
2) It is strategic.
The devil sugar coats it to everyone to it doesn't seem that bad (yeah, right.) And it always happens to you when you are left vulnerable.
3) Seductive.
Mark 14:38 - Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.
It becomes so attractive that it becomes a craving for us to fall into the temptation. We are only humans.
Romans 1:5 - Through Him we have received grace and aposlteship for obedience ti the faith among all nations for His name.
4) It seems like a great bargain.
Why not? It's just within reach and you really need a quick happy fix in your life right now. WRONG.
Luke 4: 5 to 7 - Read. It explains it all.
5) A part of our lives.
2 Corinthians 12:10 - Therefore I take pleasure in the infirmities, reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distress for Christ's sake. For when I am weak, then I (in the Lord) am strong.
Temptation is not a sin. The act of delving into the temptation is the sin.
Sin lies in the motive of the temptation. It lies in the desire and priority. It does not lie in the "what", it lies in the "why".
We can overcome temptation! Do not be discouraged.
But how do we overcome temptations?
1) He knew the Word, therefore, we should know the Word.
Hebrews 4:12 - For the Word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of thoughts and intents of the heart.
2) We have to walk in the spirit.
2 Kings 6 15-17
God bless you and have a wonderful weekend ahead!
